The Boy in the Striped Pajamas - John Boyne Wanted to read the book before I saw the movie. Wish I wouldn’t have.
Now I remember why I do not read a lot of YA. I do admit some are good ... but most seem very poorly written. Then someone says "it's a young adult, made to read easy" - really? I do not believe just because it's YA that basic written technique can not be better and seem to be lacking. It's sad that a story with plot potential is left behind by poor writing.
Did watch the movie and for once the movie is definitely better than the book. But at the same time it seems so at odds to me that someone, even a child could be so naive during war time – that he would not know at least some of what is going on around him.
