The Kitchen House - Kathleen Grissom The plot has elements of slavery we have seen before, so I understand how some think this book is somewhat stereotypical. But the characters and their complex interactions on the plantation is what pulled me in. I did not want to put the book down, I had to find out what would happen next. It has tragedy, constant overwhelming moments, heartache and betrayal. It was an emotion roller-coaster – one I did not want to put down.
